From the Fall of 2005 to the Fall of 2007, the Bovay Program co-sponsored and co-produced, with the Theater Arts Department and the Program on Ethics in Public Life, an annual original play designed to introduce issues in engineering ethics to first year engineering students. Actors for the play were recruited from the Engineering College and from the Theater Arts Department, the play was directed by the Theater Arts department. The play was written by Park Doing of the Bovay Program.
The play raised issues of the integrity of engineering data, gender and race relations in the workplace, and business ethics related to engineering practice. In the play, a group of engineering students sign on for a ‘Reality TV Show’ in which they are put in different situations in the real world of engineering and must react. The characters interact with the audience and have epiphanies along their journey. The play was great fun to produce and the engineers did a surprisingly good job as actors!
